KHOO TECK PHUA HOSPITAL

SUBSIDIZED WARDS
Full length window panels for subsidized wards to facilitate air ventilation.

There are sunshades over the windows to protect patients from the direct glare of sunlight. The shades will also re-direct the light towards the ceiling to enhance the brightness of the wards and save on the use of energy.

PRIVATE WARDS
There are panels outside the window that is arranged at an angle with provides maximum shading for the ward while patients are still able to enjoy the garden view from his or her ward.

CARPARK
The following feature provides the carpark with natural skylight.

EDWARD LIFESCIENCE MANUFACTURING FACILILY

Strong theme throughout the whole building.

Exterior -heart valves (i think) designed to be at angles that provides maximum shading
Interior - primary arteries + tool to open up heart.

3 section to building: public, office, manufacturing
There is a stark contrast in the form of  the building for the office and manufacturing section.

office- squarish and rigid sides
manufacturing section - curvaceous facade

TOKIO MARINE CENTRE

Exo skeleton façade
The design of the 'exo skeleton' façade, by architect Chan Sau Yan Associates, was inspired by the reinforcing relationship between individual stems of bamboo in a cluster, that enables them to grow tall and strong.

This translates into steel columns embedded in concrete, intersecting one another, to form the exterior structure of the Tokio Marine Centre, whilst at the same time providing solar shading for about 30% of the building.

Chillers
Instead of a conventional airconditioning system with a chilled water temperature of 6.7oC, Tokio Marine Centre will operate on chilled water at a temperature of 11oC. The benefits of using a higher chilled water temperature, are lower power consumption and lower heat losses.

Carbon monoxide-free car park system
The parking system is designed such that vehicles are automatically carried and parked through the vertical movement of elevators and the horizontal movement of carts.
The driver will have to only drive and park the car in the lift, at which point the automatic parking system will take over and sequentially park the car. As such, cars will not have to travel up ramps, as is the case with conventional multi-storey car parks. This will reduce the time spent to find a parking lot, as well as eliminate the pollution normally caused by the movement of cars through a multi-storey car park.

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF SINGAPORE

The National Museum of Singapore is an iconic architecture - bringing together the old and the new on one single site.

For the first time in the Museum’s history, the exterior façade of the historic Dome can be admired by everyone from within the museum walls. Previously, due to the height of the Dome, visitors would have to stand across Stamford Road to be able to see the Dome in its entirely.

The Glass Passage is the only modern intrusion allowed by the Urban & Redevelopment Authority (URA).

Designed as a modern interpretation of the old Rotunda Dome, the Glass Rotunda is the main feature of the new Museum extension.

During the day, 360 degrees of projected images would surround visitors when they are within the interior of the smaller drum.  At night, the Glass Rotunda will transform into a lantern, with images appearing on the 'skin' of the inner drum, visible on the exterior façade, illuminating the city skylight. The cylindrical image projection would be one of the largest and most complex outdoor projection images ever to be constructed.

In the future, the Glass Rotunda has the potential to be one of the most visible artistic platforms in Singapore, as artists can be challenged to create new 360 degree video works. The transformation will illuminate the foregrounds of the Fort Canning Park, announcing the “re-birth” of the National Museum of Singapore.

THE SUPREME COURT

The architect uses features of the supreme court to convey the law system in Singapore.

Glass is widely used on the exterior facade to potray transparency in the law system. The light that is allowed to shine through represents the light of justice.

The long stretch of escalator right up to the high court emphasize the idea that law and justice in Singapore is accessible to the public.

Aircon- flow from side of walls to cool the room

Alfresco dining right next to bukit timah nature reserve

natural air ventilation- added layer of glass to keep the air con for bar, but as far as possible, tried to kept places with natural ventilation whenever possible.
conserved- timbre,solution-fire glazed layer under timbre

To prevent roof from leaking- hidden metal roof under the original roof to drain water.

"fish scale" for air ventilation is conserved
